What we collect directly

Nothing. There is no account system on this site, no comment form that stores your details on our servers, and no contact form that writes to a database. If you email us, we have your email address because you sent it to us, and we keep it only as long as the conversation is useful.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how people arrive. It records pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device type and referring site. It does not record your name, and we do not connect it to anything that would identify you.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across every site that uses it by installing Google’s official browser add-on. Google’s own handling of this data is described in their privacy policy.

Affiliate links

Retailer links route through a redirect page on our own domain, which is described in the affiliate disclosure. That redirect does not use analytics and sets no cookies of its own. Once you arrive at a retailer, their privacy policy applies — and most affiliate programmes do set a cookie on the retailer’s site so that a purchase can be attributed to the click. We do not receive any information about who you are.

Comments

Comments, where enabled, run on Giscus, which stores them as GitHub Discussions. Posting requires a GitHub account and is governed by GitHub’s privacy policy. We do not receive or store your GitHub identity ourselves.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is held by our mailing list provider, not by us. Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address from the provider’s list. We do not sell, rent or share the list with anyone.

Advertising

Third-party advertising may set cookies or use device identifiers to limit how often you see the same ad. Where required by law, ad partners are responsible for obtaining consent before doing so. You can control interest-based advertising through your browser settings and, in the EU and UK, through the consent prompt shown on first visit.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, UK or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. In practice we hold almost none — usually just an email thread. Write to [email protected] and we will action it within 30 days.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of the page.
